Science & Technology Working Together

Stevie Nicks
The Jesus Phone.[1] I have one now. My previous old and fugly, slightly intelligent phone died. I'm not sure how all this is going to work out. I kind of suck at using features, but it was becoming increasingly clear that I needed a new phone. The old one had lines across the screen and kept going unresponsive for most of the day. So, out it went. Dane and I update our tech at... let's just say infrequent intervals. So, it was very affordable.[2] And hey, now I can move my audiobooks to my iPhone. (My iPod is on its last legs after something like six years of service.) Anyway, yay. That happened. By the way, I was surprised at how positive the entire experience was. We have Sprint. The last time I went to the Sprint store the visit took most of an afternoon, and I wasn't even remotely happy. This time? It was like a totally different company. Sprint even recycled my old phone for me. That said, I'm 100% Apple now--well, except for the old Toshiba boat-ancher laptop. I'm excited about keeping things sinqued together, but so far, my life hasn't changed. I haven't instantly become more popular, or lost weight as a result. Also, Siri and I have had a couple of amusing chats already. I expect I'll see the real benefits when I go to my next convention. I'm hoping this will help with things like organizing, scheduling, and dealing with my sad, sad concept of time. Also? It may help with that thing Dane is always complaining about--our utter lack of family photos. Maybe. I just don't like photos of me.

In other news, I've been asked to be on a (live) Northern Irish (Belfast) radio show: The Following The Nerd Radio Show on Shine FM. I'm stunned and happy and nervous all at once. You know, the usual. :) Also, I'm posting at Charlie Stross's blog again while he's away. An Laura Lee Nutt is still doing a read along for And Blue Skies from Pain.

Oh, and it's not SF but Adrian McKinty came out with a new book: I Hear Sirens in the Street. Somehow, I've got to get my hands on a copy. Like NOW. I like Duffy--not as much as I did Michael Forsythe, but he's so very much growing on me.

[1] That is, an iPhone for those who don't read Charlie Stross's Laundry books.
[2] The short story paid for it. :)

Of course, every convention I've gone to with my iPhone has been, apparently, in a Faraday Cage, because I can never get a signal worth a damn, and that drains the battery like crazy.

Well, it still can. Maybe your next con won't be the same signal blocking hole. Plus it can keep your schedule.

And I never texted before I got it. Now it's very common for me. Very odd.

the schedule thing is going to be super helpful on all sorts of fronts, i suspect.
