I'm going to miss spring. It looks like today is the last day of 80 degree temperatures for a while. We're doomed to live with the 90s for a while. Bleh. Still, it hasn't touched the dreaded 100 mark, yet. We're doing better than last year at least, and we've had actual rain. Mmmm. Rain.
Been working my way through a series of podcasts, interviews and guest blogs lately. Making progress. This is good. I've come to the conclusion that it takes me entirely too long to write these suckers. Other people can whiz through them pretty quick. Me, I take a day or two at it. I gotta get faster. I really do. It's silly. However, I worry about sounding like some kind of idiot. Yeah, I've been told I worry too much about that. Heh. Anyway, today's piece I've been working on is about Liam's dyslexia and how and why I made him illiterate -- at least at the start. I'm not sure what to say, really. I've never really looked at it as all that rare to see characters with reading disabilities before, but I guess it is. The main character in The Lightning Thief is dyslexic. (As are most of the characters in that series, if the world building is consistent.) Stuart Neville cast a dyslexic as an antagonist in Collusion -- an assassin and a real asshole too. (He's a great bad guy. Very well done.) But when I think about it that's about it. So, it was a good question. I think the reason it took me by surprise is because I'm mildly dyslexic. So, quite obviously it's pretty normal to me. I wouldn't bring it up except my spelling is off from time to time. (Sometimes I forget to run spellcheck or get very upset or excited about something.) It's extremely embarrassing when I get caught out. We all have our little problems.
