All By Myself

I think the morning kung fu classes are working out best for me. The timing is just better. I feel less scattered already. On the white board at class, Sifu had written something about over-teaching being a bad thing and that one should allow kung fu to naturally develop in the student to a degree because giving easy answers lengthens the learning process rather than shortens it. Something like that. I wish I'd written it down. I will next time. We did a very slow set of forms today. Although it was difficult, I really enjoyed it. I like the peaceful, meditative energy of standing so very still. It also helped me pick up a couple of points on how the form should be done. I noticed that my lower back hurts when I'm not properly in horse stance, and my legs feel less wobbly if I keep my knees in. Good stuff all around. I feel I'm learning a lot.

Am still finding aspects of kung fu that work for writing. I really like that. It's pretty wonderful finding something that isn't actually writing and yet supports writing. I feel everything needs to fit together, somehow. I need physical movement. It's part of who I am. I can't sit in a chair all day and all night and feel good. Plus, it's pretty wonderful having human interaction regularly.

Made the silly discovery that software doesn't work for you if you don't use it. Yeah. Freedom is a great program, but it doesn't help keep you off the internet when you should be writing if you don't use it. Yep. I totally can't rely on myself to keep that in check. I admit it now. Cool. Now we move forward. :)

I love finding the connections between martial arts and writing, the way lessons from one apply to the other and vice versa.

it's pretty amazing how much overlap there is. the funny thing is, i never noticed that with any of the other martials arts training i've taken. but then, i wasn't as serious about the writing back then as i am now.

I don't anyone can sit in a chair all day and night and feel good. It's one of the stupid things about the working dayjob world.
