It's December!

Sadly, Austin has decided to be unseasonably warm. (It's 80 degrees outside. [sigh]) Taylor, TX is having their holiday season parade of lights today. I'm looking forward to touring 34th street's light display. The Zilker Tree + hot cocoa is on the schedule this month. I've a plan for our holiday lights. (We're actually going to have some this year!!! This will be the first time since we got married.) It's obvious I'm already getting into the holiday spirit--that's terribly fast for me. It may even be a record. It usually takes a couple of weeks. Some years I don't get there at all. Last night we had the foodie neighbors over for dinner and board games. That worked nicely. I brought my A game. (That is, I threw down with the "everything I can cram into the sauce" spaghetti sauce of amazing-ness.*) I usually don't enjoy board games that much. My husband's super cut-throaty friends soured board gaming for me. My own family used to play during the holidays, and I had all these happy associations before. And then Dane's friends turned it into an exercise in ruthlessness. So, not so much. I mean, I understand the concept of just being silly and smack-talking. Hey, Hungry, Hungry Hippos can be a lot of fun when you crank the smack-talk meter up to 11, and just have fun. There's no real skill involved in a bunch of marbles rolling around combined with lever-pressing. It's not about making anyone feel stupid or less qualified. It's about being silly. Silly I can get behind.** Laughing is good for you. Which makes me think that maybe I'll invent a version of Hungry, Hungry Hippos involving the winner taking the other players' holiday cookie stash. You know, everyone starts with a set number of holiday cookies and egg nog--and then wackiness ensues. I do like the silly sometimes. Grow up? Me? Nah.

Of course, this means that I'll have to bake holiday cookies. Hmmmm... I don't think I'll be getting much writing done today. :) I'm allowed a day off. Right?
* Not that I'm bragging or anything. Ha! It takes all day to make.
** I am a giant goofus, after all.
